Robots take over Buenos Aries

Coolest thing about this is that I actually own some of the robots. I always wondered what they got up to...

D Young V x Eddie Colla Momento Mori

It's no secret how much I love Eddie Colla's stuff. Ever since I laid eyes on his 'If you want to achieve greatness, stop asking for permission' print, I was a goner. THis video is from an exhibition he put on with D Young V, another favourite of mine I discovered through Eddie (I like to refer to him in the first name basis and pretend that we're friends, creepy but true).

THe blurb goes:

Memento Mori, a Latin term for ‘remember death’, is an artistic symbol for remembering the inevitability of death, and is a continuing theme throughout Eddie Colla’s and D Young V’s work. The artists’ installations depict the end of the world juxtaposed to the rising up of a new world from ashes, and a future reduced to the tasks of survival and memory. (source)

IT's warlike, apocalyptic, industrial... all the things I like. It makes me want to make my art more, to do more and be more. That's what an awesome artist should do. When I finally take over the world, he's totally going to be my official War Artist.

The video below explains a lot of what you are seeing in the exhibition and the linkages between the objects. IT's a pretty cool little film too...

Some weekend inspiration...

Here is a bit of inspiration for the weekend.  Supakitch and Koralie in Mexico doing a mural and playing tourist.  I love seeing these two work together.

HiiRagi left speechless by HiiRagi minion...

Sometimes my minions can leave me a little bit speechless. This lucky badge, which has been on the blog before, has been all over south east Asia, including Borneo.

But what made me truly speechless was this:

I think this sets a whole new standard...

InFlux: Mission complete.

So yes, I did finally manage to finish my piece off. I kept it all really simple and monotone. I began with huge ideas that included colour and a brass band but as we all know the cliche, sometimes it's best to keep things simple. So here is my finished piece, all 4.8m x 2.4m;

I really wanted to add some helicopters to it but didn't know whether to paste them or draw them on. The nice thing about spending a week with other artists is you get the chance to bounce ideas off of them. I wish I could take the credit for it but it was Phibbs who suggested the mobile of helicopters you see on each side. I really like the shadows it throws onto the piece too. HiiRagi domination of the skies...oh yeah...

Here is a detail of the mobile...

The show is on for a week at the Barn. You should check it out. 11am-4pm. Go.

Influx: Day 2

Here we go with some more progress shots. I used a photocopied stencil of the army to stick up, quick and easy. I was going to colour it in but I think it looks pretty impressive as a black and white. The aerosol guys have gotten colour pretty well covered so I think it will be a nice contrast to keep it monotone. Its weird looking at these images, it doesn't look like there is much work but it took me a couple of hours to get the blending how I wanted to... typical artist...I can work on a single area for HOURS.

Here is a shot of the other guys, chatting to people who have come in during the day, it's been a pretty nice experience all round really. They've painted some cool stuff.

I also kind of like the way this shot is almost a portrait of the ladder and the rubbish bin.

InFlux: Day 1

Here are some progress images from InFLux. I must admit it is quite nice being able to work on such a big size (2.4 x 4.8m). Fingers crossed it all comes together.

The terrifying blank canvas

Add a bit of sky...

And some smoke...

I want my HiiRagi Army! Hopefully you can see where this is going...

Tom in his mask, personally I prefer gas masks but we all know that....

TOm's skulls

Jamin being all street and stuff...

inFLUX or where I will be next week

Yep, making art for the kids... who says World Domination Specialists are selfish and self centered?! Oh, that's right....I did. Anyway, if you're around call in and say Hi and tell me that I've put up my stencil crooked, that should bring on an instant meltdown which are always fun to watch.

Koralie and Supakitch....again....

I'm probably a bit obsessed with Koralie and Supakitch (their links are over on the side bit of the blog) but I just get really inspired watching their little docos of wall paintings and the processes that they use. Enjoy!

All Round Inspiration: King Brown Mag

Do you guys know King Brown Mag? I've only recently found it but I really like it for a bit of inspiration. Even better is it comes from Perth, WA ( I've been known to have my doubts about that place but I can't argue with this one.) It's just jammed packed full of street artists and illustrators from around the world, a bit of photography, maybe some music and it comes delivered in an awesome screened brown paper bag that they commission from an artist each issue.
It also tends to include a few stickers or postcards and I love a freebie. It is a tad expensive for a magazine but it's more like a book to be honest and the interviews are cool. Below are some images from Issue 5:
My favourite favourite thing, however, is the studio snapshot of each artist favourite things in their studio, I love a good sticky beak. If all else fails, just go and read the blog, yep, I know I sound like a broken record, but that's ace too..

Supakitch and Koralie

For anyone looking for a bit of inspiration, look no further.  This is a great video by Elroy documenting a collaboration between Koralie and Supakitch. Below are some images from the video.

Awesomeness.  Thanks Miss Ellie for sharing this with me!

Fear Da Robots

A great bit of graffiti spotted near Vic Markets in Melbourne.  Look at all them robots!  Though there is a distinct leaning to Doctor Who...
